How I furnished our living room

I moved into my dream home the first week the city went on lock down back in March. Fortunately, I was able to get movers scheduled and quickly settled in.

My approach to furnishing the home was to move everything from the previous place so that I could see what items worked and didn’t. I focused on the common areas like the living room, kitchen and dining room first. In order to keep costs at a minimum, we decided to keep all of the big items as those tend to be the most expensive. Here’s how I planned out and designed our new living room!

Please note that the biggest challenge I had was not being able to shop for new furniture in person. I measured the areas before purchasing everything online and hoped for the best. Overall it worked out!

#1 Create a mood board

We kept our couch and I designed around it. Having a visual board helps to keep the vision on track. I used the Canva app to put the images together.

#2 Purchase large MUST have items first

Purchasing the larger items first helped me settle on the theme and I avoided having to wait for the items I wanted if they were out of stock.

#3 Add small accent pieces to mix with old

If you have a lot of different colors, adding small accent pieces help bring the colors together. I like adding light colors to soften up the dark furniture.

Final Product!

This is what our living room looks like right now. I added existing side tables from our guest bedrooms temporarily, but I think it still works!
