My Whole30 Journey
My history with Whole30
A little over 6 years ago, my besties and I discovered Whole30 and decided to embark on the journey together. I LOVED it! I lost 14+ lbs, felt great, my skin wasn’t breaking out, had a lot of energy AND my hair was very full. After 30 days, I continued to eat Whole30 with the exception of adding back alcohol (let’s be real — I love social drinking so couldn’t give it up forever). I had questions on what I did to lose weight drastically and since cooking clean for 1 isn’t cheap, one of my girlfriends said we should make it a business! So… we started Whole Prepped Meals and prepared food for our colleagues and friends — this is our old IG page. We ended up dissolving the company after a year as our schedules got too busy and weekend cooking didn’t allow us to travel much. I still cook Whole30 meals, but it’s not the same if you’re not 100% dedicated to the 30 day program.
Since then, I’ve tried Keto, low carb, Nutritional Solutions, South Beach Diet, etc and have yet to get the same results. Last year, I decided to embark on the Whole30 journey again. At the time, I was 35, tired of not fitting into my clothes, feeling sluggish, and not investing in my personal health. After a few weeks on the journey, I started seeing results! I ended going one size down in clothes and ultimately shed over 20 lbs. The goal of this journey is to not lose weight, but for me personally was to feel good in my own skin again. If I focused on losing weight, it put more pressure on me to ultimately be afraid of failing so I just stuck with the program as best as I could. Even though I did have some slip ups, I wasn’t down on myself. I just tried to make better choices the next time I ate something.
So what is Whole30?
The Whole30 program is essentially 30 days of WHOLE eating to reset your health and habits or relationship with food. For 30 days, you will give up sugar, dairy, legumes, grains AND alcohol. Basically giving up all processed foods to allow your body to get rid of all the bad toxins.
You can learn more about the program here!
This is a great post if you’re doing Whole30 and not sure what you can eat.
I’ve also created this quick reference sheet you can screenshot or download as well!
